Indian mobile handset manufacturer Intex Technologies has tied up with African e-commerce company Jumia to sell its products in Cote d’Ivoire

According to the agreement signed between Intex Technologies and Jumie Cote d’Ivoire, the e-commerce company will become the exclusive authorised dealer of Intex smartphones in Cote d’Ivoire. The mutually beneficial alliance provides the Indian smartphone brand with access to the growing Ivorian telephony market and reinforces Jumia’s supply options in a competitive market.

Intex hopes to quickly penetrate the Ivorian market, benefiting from the e-retailer’s experience in the local market. With 97.5 per cent penetration rate of mobile telephony, Cote d’Ivoire makes for a very lucrative market for mobile phone manufacturers. Consequently, there is a lot of competition between different brands. Jumia will provide the Indian manufacturer with more than 500,000 potential customers and an integrated promotional, commercial and logistics platform along with thorough knowledge of the local market.

Intex Technologies has two lines of smartphones, under Aqua and Cloud brands. The company has research and development centres in India and China.

The agreement comes after several months of discussions and negotiation between the two companies. The partnership is already in effect and a few hours after the agreement was signed last week, the first Aqua-branded smartphone was already available on www.jumia.ci.
