The African Development Bank (AfDB) has set up open-data platforms for 20 African countries, including Ethiopia, Malawi, Namibia and Nigeria, which will be aimed at increasing access to reliable data on Africa

The programme is part of the AfDB’s recently launched ‘Africa Information Highway’ initiative, which allows users across the continent to extract data, compile reports, share customised reports and analyse data in the format of tables, charts and maps.

According to the AfDB, the initiative will aim to address various global and regional projects to improve the availability of reliable and valid data on Africa, while also encouraging good governance.

“The platform offers a unique opportunity for various users, such as policy makers, analysts, researchers, business leaders and investors around the world, to gain access to reliable and timely data on Africa," stated the AfDB in a statement.

“Users can visualise time series development indicators over a period of time, perform comprehensive analysis at country and regional levels, utilise presentation-ready graphics or create their own, blog, and share their views and work with others, thereby creating an informed community of users.”
