World Panel’s SunStream will now allow MTN subscribers to stream electricity from the sun directly into their mobile phones

As part of a promotional offer, MTN South Africa is offering users a World Panel SunStream bundle. Introduced in 2015, this technology allows users to stream electricity from the sun directly into their mobile devices. It bypasses the need for chipsets or PC boards and can charge most mobile phones almost at the same speed of a wall plug. The SunStream can perform even underwater.

The new bundle was announced at an event in Mthatha, South Africa, where executives from MTN and World Panel were present. The bundle priced at US$14.67, includes a SunStream and free MTN network airtime of US$1.34. This promotional package is expected to roll out across South Africa very soon.

“The SunStream was developed with exactly this customer in mind — someone who views their mobile device as a lifeline, but lacks the power to keep it charged,” said World Panel managing director for South Africa Hennie Botha.

“The reliable, affordable power offered by the SunStream can be a game-changer.”

Botha also confirmed that there were plans in the pipeline for distribution into Africa. This was one of the reasons MTN was selected as a partner.
