OpenSignal, a mobile analytics company, has selected MTN as the best video experience provider in South Africa

This follows from the recently published State of Mobile Video report, which analysed the mobile video experience in 69 countries.

MTN beat its rival Vodacom to win the prize. It was a pretty tight race, as Vodacom 's score of 58.6 points was within 3 points of MTN's 60.9 points.

MTN and Vodacom's scores were in the middle of the Good category for mobile video experience-the second highest rating in any of the countries that were analysed in the report.

South Africa performed quite well for a market that is still maturing. With a country score of 55.9, it clearly ranked in the mid-table among the 69 countries, according to OpenSignal.

South Africa outperformed some of the more developed mobile markets, including France, Ireland and Russia.

The analysis of the new video experience calculates a rating on a scale of 0 to 100, where 100 is the best possible video experience.

OpenSignal defines a Good score as characterised by video streamed from the Internet to a phone or tablet rendering at both low and high resolutions, but exhibiting some loading time before playback begins and some stalling, especially at HD resolutions.

Meanwhile, in a network with a fair result, users typically experience long loading times and frequent stalling at high resolutions, but better quality at low resolutions.
