At AfricaCom 2009, held 18-19 November in Cape Town, RAD Data Communications introduced its ETX-204A Carrier Ethernet demarcation device, which delivers SLA-based Layer 2 and Layer 3 business services to the customer premises over native Ethernet access. 

The WACS Consortium and Alcatel-Lucent have signed a turnkey contract valued at several hundred million US dollars to deploy a new submarine cable network that will provide the first direct connection between Southern Africa and Europe.

Alcatel-Lucent and Telkom Foundation have collaborated on the establishment of an e-learning centre and Internet café at Grassy Park Senior Secondary School in Cape Town, South Africa.
