The Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology has announced a cooperation with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to grow its digital economy
This was revealed by the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology on 20 August in Hangzhou, China, following a meeting between the Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, Getahun Mekuria, and Jack Ma, founder of the Alibaba Group.
The Ethiopian Minister of Innovation and Technology, Getahun Mekuria, said, “Great discussion with Jack Ma on building Ethiopian Digital Economy.”
Mekuria noted the huge importance and “highest priority” the Ethiopian government gives to investments in the digital transformation.
Jack Ma expressed he has been inspired by the reforms that have been undertaken, confirming that Ethiopia is now a vital strategic partner which he will visit this year.
In line with the partnership, Alibaba’s Chairman Jack Ma is planning to visit Ethiopia alongside top Chinese investors in November 2019. This visit will help to promote financial inclusion and strengthen the digital economy of Ethiopia.
