CNN and Multichoice honoured Africas top journalists last week at the CNN Multichoice African Journalist 2016 awards

There were a record number of entries in the 2016 award nominations, according to bizcommunity, with 1,637 from 38 African countries. Media stories that won awards included those of hope, terror, conservation, exploitation, rejuvenation, survival and corruption as well as the human story of Africa.

Asha Ahmed Mwilu and Rashid Idi, the overall winners who work for Kenya Television Network, won for their story 'Terror Crossing.' It is an in-depth investigative documentary about security at the Kenya-Somali border in Mandera county. It aired on Kenya Television Network's 'The Lead' investigative programme.

Tributes were paid by the judges to the winners for their exceptional journalism and for tackling issues that, in some cases, would never have seen the light of day without the winners hard work and dedication to their craft.
