Somalia’s country-code domain (dotSO) has launched the (.me.so) domain for the first time by giving out free domains to students and authors to promote blogging within the young people

The free domain was launched at Somalia’s first Information and Communications (ICT) exhibition under the theme ‘Developing Vibrant ICT Sector’ held in October 2018.

The event provided a networking opportunity for the youth who had interactive discussions with the leaders of the sector both from the private and the public.

The Expo was attended by more than 60 local exhibitors from telecom, ISPs, web/software and app developers, ICT startups, major universities that offer ICT courses, and government ICT-related institutions.

Abdurahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow), governor of Benadir, the official sponsor of the event, said that he was impressed by the quality of services and innovative ideas exhibited at the Expo.

“Both locally and nationally, we are working hard to create an enabling environment to help the young people create jobs for themselves and for the fellow citizens,” he added.

At the closing ceremony, minister for Post, Telecom and Technology, Eng Abdi Ashur, said that the Expo has shown the strength, diversity and the vibrancy of Somalia’s ICT sector.

“The event gave the country's ICT sector a further boost and showcased the progress made in this sector by the public and private sectors. We will continue providing such platforms to the sector through different initiatives,” concluded the minister.
