Africell Holding has announced that one of its mobile subsidiaries, Africell Gambia, has reached 1.1mn active subscribers

The company’s active subscriber base has reached six million and is expected to reach seven million by end 2013.

By the end of 2013, Africell Gambia has 65 per cent market share in a market of four players and a population of an estimated two million.

Africell Sierra Leone is expected to reach more than 2.3mn new subscribers by the end of 2013, the company said.

Its other subsidiary, Africell RDC, which has recently been set-up in Congo is set to have 3.6mn active subscribers also by the end of this year.

It has been operating in Congo DRC since 2012, is currently the number one operator in Sierra Leone with more than 1,500,000 subscribers.

Plans for growth are underway for Africell to expand to other African countries, with a core focus on West Africa, Africell said.

Lintel Holding, the Africell parent holding company owns a high stake in other GSM networks in Sierra Leone and DR Congo, also working under the same brand name.
