Bharti Airtel has announced that it has set-up a mobile HD voice service for its customers in Africa

Airtel, which is the third operator to roll out a mobile HD voice facility in Africa, is set to make mobile HD voice accessible in all its locations across the continent.

HD voice has transformed voice communications in the past 20 years and offers excellent audio quality, Airtel stated, adding that the technology would enhance user experience on its mobile networks across the continent.

Andre Beyers, chief marketing officer of Airtel Africa, said, “Surveys confirm that customers place a high value on HD Voice.

“The new service will enrich end-user experience for Airtel subscribers.”

The telecommunications services provider explained that mobile HD voice enables high-quality voice calls because it decreases background noise, which is usually heard on a normal handset.

The new service aims to maximise user experience if both the calling and the called party have a HD voice compatible mobile phone, however, calling to a non-HD voice phone will also enhance call quality.

Airtel Africa plans to launch further HD voice services in 2013.
