IsatPhone Pro, a global handheld service and the first new product in the GSPS portfolio, is planned to go live at the end of Q2 2010. AST’s Managing Director, Gregory Darling said, “We’re delighted to be at the forefront of this exciting new handheld service, building on our relationship with Inmarsat and expanding our capability in the satellite phone market.”
Helen Stalker, Commercial Director for GSPS at Inmarsat said, “The global launch of IsatPhone Pro is on track, and appointing the distribution partners is a key milestone. I am delighted to welcome AST as a launch partner for these new services. AST has successfully introduced our BGAN service into new and untapped markets, and we look forward to similar achievement with our new global handheld.”
AST has sold Inmarsat services since the early 90s and has recently gained the accreditation of Distribution Partner for BGAN. This further appointment is a significant milestone for AST as it strengthens the relationship with Inmarsat and affirms AST’s status in the global satellite communications business.

With the successful launch and subsequent repositioning of the new I-4 satellites, Inmarsat also offers a global broadband service with up to 384kbps using compact portable terminals.
