Ghana’s National Communications Authority has reported that the number of mobile data users has risen

Subscriptions in the West African nation increased to 16,106,218 at the end of March 2015 from 15,804,608 at the end of the previous month, equalling a penetration rate of 59.78 per cent.

MTN Ghana remained the provider with the largest mobile data market share, with 48.30 per cent, following a 1.55 per cent rise in subscriptions, from 7,660,483 in February to 7,778,925 at the end of March.

Over the same period, Airtel Ghana’s subscriber base increased by 2.39 per cent from 2,206,603 to 2,259,26, giving it a 14.03 per cent mobile data market share, while Tigo Ghana saw a rise of 147,811 subscribers or 6.42 per cent, from 2,303,539 to 2,451,350, closing March with a 15.22 per cent market share.

Expresso saw the largest proportional month-on-month subscriptions rise of all the mobile companies, increasing its number of customers by 9.01 per cent, or 3,270, to 39,571 from 36,301 at the end of February, giving it a 0.25 per cent market share.

Vodafone Ghana’s mobile data subscriber base was one of a few to fall over the period, losing 6,989 subscribers, or 0.24 per cent, giving it 2,947,136 users and a market share of 18.30 per cent at the end of March.

Glo Ghana also recorded a decrease from February’s figure of 643,557 to end March with 629,968 subscribers and a market share of 3.91 per cent.
