Megatron Federal, a division of Ellies, has announced that it has acquired the tower business of Andrew Corporation
“We have taken over the complete Andrew Towers team, which was a business unit of Andrew Wireless Solutions Africa wholly owned by CommScope, with all personnel, designs, patents and tools,” said Ryan Otto, the Ellies director responsible for Megatron Federal. “This will ensure there is no disruption in the design, manufacturing, marketing and delivery of the current range of towers.
Andrew is one of the most recognised brands in the global telecommunications industry. The towers are manufactured in multiple factories in various regions of the world including India and China and are an integral part of the infrastructure that creates RF telecommunications systems that keep people connected throughout the world.
Andrew towers, which feature the patented Andrew Crimp, are used by most major operators. The ‘crimp’ design gives significant advantages in weight, strength and stability.
“We had just completed the design of a new range of Alpha towers that will give our customers additional significant savings,” said Andrew Wireless Solutions Africa VP and MD Alan Jones. “The strength-to-weight ratio in these towers gives us our most competitive product to date, along with our superior foundation designs, and are exciting products with which to launch the new venture.
“Megatron Federal will now be able to offer customers Andrew towers manufactured on three continents in high quality factories, with significant manufacturing capacity to ensure speed to market and proximity to global customers.”
The new Megatron Federal business unit is housed in the same premises as Andrew at 11 Commerce Crescent West in Eastgate, Sandton, South Africa, and will offer the full range of Andrew/Megatron Federal towers along with the Megatron Federal specialised power systems and data solutions to its OEM and cellular operator customers.

Ellies is the largest manufacturer, wholesaler and distributor of electrical products related to television reception in South Africa. Megatron Federal is a leader in the fields of power generation, transmission and distribution.
