Movitel has received a competitive strategy leadership award in mobile communications from business consulting firm Frost and Sullivan for its method in expanding service coverage in Mozambique

The company received a nine out of 10 mark from Frost and Sullivan, which is double the figure given to other companies including TM and Vodacom.

The research and consulting firm handed over the award at a ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa (pictured).

“Movitel has been very smart to invest in the future with its strategy on popularising its telecommunication service for a majority of the Mozambicans who are low-income earners," Frost and Sullivan said.

According to research conducted by Frost and Sullivan, statistics revealed that the Mozambican mobile communications market market had been very competitive before the arrival of Movitel.

“Movitel has expanded its network to widely introduce its service through many social programmes such as free Internet for schools or subsidised service charges. This enables rural people to access their services to improve their life and they then become customers,” Frost and Sullivan added.
