MTN Group, Africas biggest telecom company, is looking to launch a mobile service in Namibia around the end of August

“We are working towards end of August,” Hester Marais, an executive at MTN Namibia, told Reuters in an interview.

MTN plans to use state-owned Telecom Namibia’s network infrastructure for its mobile service and also plans to enter the local mobile money market, according to Reuters.

Johannesburg-listed MTN, which has operated in Namibia for over 20 years, provides internet services to financial institutions and wholesale customers.

The market in Namibia, which has a population of 2mn people, is dominated by state-owned operator MTC.
