Telecommunications company Uganda Telecoms has reactivated its voice short message service (SMS) for both feature phones and smartphones in Uganda

The new facility has been set-up by Kirusa, a voice and social media solutions company for emerging markets, Uganda Telecom said.

Inderpal Singh Mumick, chief executive officer (CEO) of Kirusa, said, “We are honoured that Uganda Telecom has chosen to re-launch Voice SMS with Kirusa."

Customers will be instructed to dial ‘*’ followed by the number of the person they would like to send a message to and then leave a 30-second voice message in any language, the company stated.

According to Uganda Telecom, the recipient will receive a notification message from the sender and then dial *0* to hear new voice messages.

Voice SMS messages can be recorded, replied to, forwarded, saved, skipped, retrieved or deleted, Uganda Telecom stated.

“We are delighted to re-launch this contemporary service from Kirusa. We are hopeful that this service will introduce a new way to communicate for our subscribers, and prove to be a beneficial resource,” commented on the launch, Shailendra Naidu, chief commercial officer of Uganda Telecom.
