Yahsat’s YahClick service has been named the “Most Innovative Product/Service for Africa” at the SatCom Star Awards

The Middle East satellite service provider described the award as an endorsement of the potential of its YahClick service offering, which will aim to provide connectivity to residents in unserved and underserviced areas across 28 countries in Africa, the Middle East and South West Asia.

Yahsat chief executive officer Tareq Abdul Raheem Al Hosani remarked, “Winning a SatCom Award is highly significant as a recognisable endorsement of industry excellence and innovation from our peers.

“We firmly believe our YahClick service has the potential to change the way people live and work by harnessing the power of technology.”

The SatCom Star Awards programme, which forms part of the annual SatCom Africa event in Johannesburg, was launched in 2007 to reward exceptional performers within the satellite marketplace.

Yahsat chief commercial officer Shawkat Ahmed commented, “At the moment, the majority of Africans access the internet through mobile systems, which are often highly congested and not consistently reliable.

“YahClick will offer individuals, schools, governments, and businesses the opportunity to gain much needed connectivity through a reliable, high performance and cost effective solution.”

Another winner at the awards ceremony was Discovery Networks Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMEA), who was named as “SatCom Broadcaster of the Year 2012”.

Phillip Luff, vice president country manager at Discovery Networks Africa, said, “Winning a SatCom Stars Award is seen as a recognisable standard of industry excellence and innovation.

“We have increased our investment into Africa, and are working to identify content and stories with particular relevance for African audiences wherever it originates,” he added.
