MTN has launched a cloud-based banking software in Nigeria, called MTN XaaS, in an attempt to improve micro-finance banking operations in the country

According to MTN, the new software will assist small and medium-sized banks and help them compete on a national level.

A statement from the company said that the aim of the new service would be to help generate more micro-finance banking operations in the country and improve customer service within the telecommunications sector.

The mobile operator revealed that “MTN XaaS Micro-banking software has been designed to enable carrying out banking operations without having to pay much in licensing, storage and implementation costs”.

MTN added that the new software platform “could save microfinance banks up to 70 per cent of the traditional costs involved in procuring, hosting and implementing typical banking software”.

The software was developed by Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) and will be run by MTN Business, the business-to-business division of MTN Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria chief executive officer Brett Goschen, said his mobile network’s commitment was to delivering solutions that will make Nigerian businesses more productive and profitable.

Babatunde Osho, chief enterprise solutions officer at MTN Nigeria, said, “MTN XaaS Micro-banking software is one of a number of cloud services MTN Business will launching in Nigeria.”

CWG group managing director Austin Okere added that it was "a pleasure" to partner with MTN Business and help it deliver a service that would enable micro-finance banks increase productivity and improve customer service, while remaining cost-effective.
