The ITU’s 15th Global Symposium for Regulators will commence in Libreville, Gabon, on 9 June 2015

Lasting until 11 June, the event will host guests and speakers from around the world, in what organisers called “the world's pre-eminent gathering of the global ICT regulatory community”.

The conference will focus on the overarching theme ‘Mind the Digital Gap: Regulatory Incentives to Achieve Digital Opportunities’, with participants exploring ways to ensure that all citizens benefit from the opportunities brought by the digital economy.

Discussions will centre on a series of key topics, including mobile money, the ‘internet of everything’, taxation, investment strategies, network-sharing business models and the impact of regulation upon broadband uptake.

ICT in Gabon, like in much of Africa, is a growth sector, with the West African nation now having 40,000 landlines, 350,000 cell phone subscribers and 55,000 internet users.

The ITU symposium will be held under the patronage of the Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, and chaired by Lin Mombo, president of the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes (ARCEP).
