Angola Cables has partnered with TM GLOBAL, the wholesale arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), to explore a new cable route from South America to Asia via Africa

A Proof of Concept (PoC) testing is being conducted by both parties using two cable systems; the South Africa Far East cable system (SAFE), connecting Malaysia to Angola, and South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) connecting Angola to Brazil owned by both parties.

Preliminary results of the PoC showed a reduction in latency reading compared to the current northern hemisphere routes. This may lead to significant improvements in the quality of global Internet traffic routing, particularly for data connectivity services in the Southern Hemisphere.

In bypassing the Middle East and Europe, the new express route is set to provide a shorter path to Asia and South America, which in turn will improve better customer experience. The low latency routing would provide a catalyst to develop more effective digital ecosystems in the southern hemisphere.

In addition, data transfer between different countries and economies is also expected to be transformed, allowing for more robust connectivity between backhaul providers, content/application providers and content delivery network providers in a more efficient data sharing process.

TM GLOBAL and Angola Cables believe that this initiative will provide better opportunities for service providers to expand their business and reach new and niche markets. Both parties will continue to explore other potential areas of collaboration to penetrate new market opportunities and serve customers who are looking for diversity, high resilience and better quality of service.
