Nairobi-based internet hardware and service startup BRCK and Swvl, an Egyptian ride-hail company, are partnering to bring WiFi and online entertainment to Kenya’s on-demand bus service

According to TechCrunch, BRCK will install its routers on Swvl vehicles in Kenya. They will run their Moja service, which offers free WiFi to the public – internet, music and entertainment – subsidized by commercial partners.

Swvl was founded in 2017 in Cairo, Egypt as a mass transit service offering Uber-like bus services. Swvl is a ride-hailing bus service that picks up riders at a particular point and time.

BRCK has installed up to 15 of its router units in Swvl buses in Kenya with plans to roll out Moja WiFi in over 700 buses by 2020. Swvl pays a monthly fee to BRCKS for routers and router maintenance.

BRCK leverages this partnership to serve 70-80 per cent of Africans who are unable to afford the Internet.

BRCK is an integrated hardware and software company based in Nairobi, Kenya that designs and engineers a robust, self-powered, mobile WiFi device that connects people and things to the Internet in areas of the world with poor infrastructure.

The vision of the company is a connected world where the last mile of internet connectivity is as seamless for someone living in Africa as it is in Europe or the US.
