Pinky Kekana, deputy minister of communications in South Africa, has launched a digital skills programme with Google in Limpopo, aiming to encourage communities to benefit from the opportunities the internet provides for business growth

The digital skill programme will pair communities to work together based on their level of digital engagement.

In addition to this, the programme will also enable the communities to arrange ongoing meetups and Google South Africa will institute community awards in recognition of these efforts, Kekana noted.

Through engaging at a community level, the programme hopes to get more businesses and individuals online and equipped to take advantage of the opportunities the internet presents to them, being a catalyst for economic growth and development in the communities where it is adopted.

Besides these, this programme will ensure that its participants have the ability to find, evaluate, utilise, share and create content using information technologies and the internet.
