SmartCIC, a leading provider of smart global connectivity and field services solutions, has formed a meaningful partnership with Maxim Nyansa Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to raising funds and mobilising volunteers for the training of underprivileged young Africans
The collaboration, initiated at the end of 2023, is driven by a shared vision to empower women in developing African countries by equipping them with high-value IT skills and certifications.
This laudable initiative specifically targets women in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Already, 16 to 18 candidates have been enrolled at each residential training center, showcasing the commitment of both SmartCIC and Maxim Nyansa Foundation to make a positive impact.
In collaboration with Maxim Nyansa Foundation, SmartCIC leverages the NGO's established network in Africa to organize training bootcamps. These sessions are facilitated by SmartCIC's seasoned IT engineers and technical teams, who not only impart valuable skills but also provide second-hand IT hardware equipment for hands-on training. Additionally, there are plans to extend support through microfinancing, aimed at empowering women-led IT businesses across the African continent.
Catherine Hemingray, sales director and co-founder of SmartCIC, expressed her deep conviction about the moral and social responsibility of companies to give back to the community.
“The partnership we have with Maxim Nyansa Foundation, is a form of social governance that myself and co-founder Toby Forman have always been compelled to want to put into place. With our expansion of IT services into Africa we felt a social and moral obligation to be giving something back,” stated Hemingray.
“There is a huge opportunity for companies now to go and help develop the technology in Africa. But we both feel that it should be quantified alongside giving something back at the same time and helping develop areas of the continent that are lacking in resources,” remarked Hemingray.
With plans to establish more than 700 data centres in Africa, there is a significant opportunity for IT companies to contribute to the continent's digital development. SmartCIC recognises this potential and aims to not only provide high-value training and resources but also repurpose hardware in a manner that adds value to the community and supports economic activity.
Acknowledging the global issue of e-waste, SmartCIC has taken a responsible approach by donating its used IT equipment to Maxim Nyansa for use in their training programs. The company is also encouraging its carrier partners to contribute any unwanted hardware, contributing to sustainable practices and environmental objectives.
SmartCIC invites conversations with IT specialists and companies interested in joining this initiative, expressing a genuine eagerness to make a significant contribution to the growing African digital economy. Through this collaborative effort, SmartCIC and Maxim Nyansa Foundation are exemplifying the importance of responsible corporate citizenship and social impact in the realm of global technology expansion.
