Global ICT solutions provider Huawei will provide the advanced IP microwave solution to the LTE backhaul networks of Movicel in Angola and Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) in Namibia
The move will make Movicel and MTC the first two operators to provide commercial LTE services in Africa.
Qi Feng, general manager of Huawei Microwave Domains, said, “Huawei will continue to play an active role in building Africa’s telecommunications infrastructure. As Africa’s commercial LTE industry accelerates, Huawei’s IP microwave solution serves as a strategic engine for its mobile broadband development.”
Huawei’s UMTS/LTE-ready IP microwave solution has been designed to meet the requirements of LTE backhaul deployment, which will involve high bandwidth, smooth service evolution, rapid deployment and convenient network management.
The solution will provide up to 2Gb/s to each individual operator, support a simplified clock synchronisation and allow unified network management for optical transmission and wireless equipment.
Huawei has already undertaken several projects to deploy LTE backhaul networks both inside and outside of Africa.
In Nigeria, 4G Mobile and ZODAFONES deployed the first commercial TD-LTE network in West Africa and utilised Huawei’s IP microwave solution, RTN 900, for their LTE backhaul networks.
Huawei’s solution also empowered the LTE backhaul networks of global operators, including O2 in Germany, T-Mobile in Austria and Saudi Telecom Company in Saudi Arabia.
