Internet Technologies Group (ITG) of Africa has chosen wireless broadband solutions provider Alvarion to supply broadband connectivity to three of its subsidiaries in Angola, Namibia and Zambia

The three projects - Internet Technologies Angola, Internet Technologies Namibia and Internet Technologies Zambia - have a combined value of approximately US$2mn.

Alvarion has helped ITG tailor a wireless broadband solution to match the needs of its local customers in Angola, Namibia and Zambia.

ITG Group chief executive officer Barney Harmse, said, “Within a short time frame, we were able to install a complete network covering the entire capital of Namibia and we are looking forward to the Angola and Zambia projects.”

An ITG statement informed Internet Technologies Angola was migrating its network from FDD to TDD technology and Alvarion’s 4Motion solution in the 3.5GHz frequency band has been selected to upgrade the network to a WiMAX 802.16e network that is TD-LTE ready.

It added that the solution will be installed around the capital city Luanda, as well as in Lobito, Benguela and Lubango, and be sued to provide Internet connectivity to small businesses, homes and business customers.

The statement said, “Internet Technologies Zambia will deploy Alvarion’s BreezeCOMPACT solution in the 3.5GHz band, to deliver data and Internet services to businesses and residents in the capital city Lusaka as well as in Zambia, Ndola and Kitwe.

“Internet Technologies Namibia has deployed Alvarion’s 4Motion 802.16e solution in the 2.5GHz frequency covering the entire capital city of Windhoek, Oshakati, and Walvis Bay with high-speed Internet and data services.”
