Airtel has rolled out its 3.75G platform in Rwanda offering mobile Internet users in the country speeds of up to 21 Mbps

According to the company, the improved technology will enhance multimedia functionality and improve high-speed mobile broadband access for Rwandans with Internet-enabled devices.

“The technology on our 3.75G network will give our customers the opportunity to interact with data in a different way,” said Airtel Rwanda country manager Marcellin Paluku.

“This is why Airtel doesn’t see 3G as a product but a platform that enables the community to expand its social and commercial horizons, alongside the rest of the world.”

The technology, which is also in the process of being rolled out across the USA and Europe, is the fastest 3G currently available.

Airtel has teamed up Ericsson to carry out the upgrade to Rwanda’s existing network to the 3.75G network, which will initially be available to customers in Kigali, before being spread out to other parts of the country throughout the rest of July.

Paluku added that the productivity of Rwandan businesses that sign up to the 3.75G platform would benefit from “vastly enhanced mobile Internet speeds”.
