Telecommunications company Bharti Airtel has announced it is extending its range of services that can be paid for with Airtel Money mobile money accounts across Africa
Airtel Money accounts can now be used for purchasing insurance policies and paying for air tickets, as well as P2P cash transfers and utility bill payment.
The company provides mobile communications services across 20 African and Asian countries.
Airtel managing director Charity Lumpa revealed that there are now 1.8mn Airtel Money users in Zambia, as well as 800mn agents countrywide.
“Airtel Money is an easy to use, versatile and exciting service which is password-protected through state-of-the-art security systems”, said Lumpa.
Airtel customers will now able to use their Airtel Money accounts to pay for insurance from Nico Insurance Zambia.
The agreement with Nico Insurance follows a similar agreeement with the Proflight Zambia airline that allows customers to purchase air tickets via Airtel Money.
Nico Insurance is offering a discount to customers who pay using their Airtel Money accounts.
In Kenya, Airtel has a strategic partnership with Pan Africa Life Assurance Limited and MicroEnsure for the sale of life insurance via mobile phones.
