Swedish technology giant, Ericsson, has announced it will take control over operations of 75 per cent of mobile operator MTN Nigeria’s network

MTN Nigeria has entered into a deal with Ericsson for a “major five-year managed services agreement,” according to a recent statement.

The agreement outlines the management, optimisation and field maintenance of 75 per cent of MTN’s network infrastructure in places such as Lagos, Abuja, Engu Port Harcourt and Asaba.

“MTN will retain ownership and full control of its network assets and continue to have responsibility for strategic design and planning, as well as equipment purchasing decisions,” said Ericsson in a press statement.

Michael Ikpoki, chief executive officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria, commented,"This engagement with Ericsson is a logical step forward in our strategy execution and is consistent with our commitment to deliver a bold new digital world to our customers across Nigeria."

“Leaving the management and maintenance of our infrastructure to Ericsson will allow us to focus even more on adding value to the customer experience on our network,” Ikpoki added.
