Finding a job in Nigeria on a mobile phone will now become easier following the launch of the Job Xpress app on the Glo Mobile network

Nigerian youngsters looking for jobs can use the app to circulate their CVs and apply for jobs from their handsets.

The app has been developed by ForgetMeNot Africa for Globacom network’s Glo Mobile. The CVs are circulated as attachments to emails regardless of the handset model.

The incorporation of the app will give a boost to Glo Mobile’s popularity as recent OECD figures revealed that about 40 million African youths are currently unemployed.

ForgetMeNot Africa chief executive officer Jeremy George said, “The OECD’s research showed that a major concern for many young Africans is that jobs are only given to people with connections or relatives who are highly placed. Job Xpress helps to level the field by giving job applicants a direct method of application.

“It is a step towards tackling barriers to employment that currently affects young, bright and eager to work Africans.

“Job Xpress is one way the mobile industry is contributing to the economy. African mobile subscribers are giving access to an internet-free app that gives them a simpler, cheaper and faster way to kick-start their career,” he added.

Globacom head of valued-added services Samson Isa said, “The app helps young people in their efforts to get their foot on the first rung of the career ladder. It is a contribution to reducing unemployment among young Nigerians.”
