Ghanas mobile phone subscriptions grew from 30.2mn in November 2014 to 30.6mn in December 2014 representing a 0.47 per cent increase, revealed a report by the National Communications Authority (NCA)

According to the report, MTN’s subscriber base in Ghana has increased from 13.66mn in November 2014 to 13.85mn in December 2014. The firm’s market share also increased to 45.63 per cent from 45.23 per cent during the same period, added the report.

Telecom operator Tigo’s subscriber base rose to 4.13mn from 4.1mn representing an increase of 0.81 per cent. For the same period, Tigo’s market share increased likewise from 13.57 per cent in November to 13.62 per cent in December.

Nigerian multinational telecommunications company, Glo, saw its subscriber base fall from 1.45mn to 1.43mn, a decrease of 0.9 per cent, according to the report.

An official from NCA said that Vodafone’s subscriber base decreased from 7.13mn in November to 7.06mn in December, which indicated a 0.95 per cent loss. “The company’s market share had also decreased to 23.29 per cent from 23.62 per cent,” said the official.

Airtel Ghana increased its mobile subscriber base by 7,290 or 0.34 per cent and it ended December with 2.13mn mobile subscribers, up from 2.12mn recorded in the previous month. Its share of the mobile market dipped from 13.51 per cent to 13.48 per cent during the same time, noted the official.
