Vodacom Tanzania has launched a promotional campaign to allow its customers to transfer money without incurring charges
Vodacom Tanzania managing director, Rene Meza, said the campaign was the company’s gesture to thank its 4.5mn customers who continue to rely on M-Pesa, the operator's mobile money transfer service, for their daily transactions.
Under the promotion, Meza said, all M-Pesa users will instantly get a refund of their transfer charges on any amount sent to a Vodacom customer.
He added that the refunds will be in the form of airtime and be paid immediately after the transaction has been made.
“Vodacom customers do not need to subscribe for this service as it will be available to all prepaid M-Pesa users across the country," said Meza.
“The M-Pesa service has evolved from being just a money transfer service solution. It addresses the business and corporate sectors’ needs to collect cash or disperse payments.”
He added that M-Pesa has also been directly connected to various banks, allowing money to be deposited directly into bank accounts or funds withdrawn from an account through any of the M-Pesa agents across the country.
