Software major Microsoft has entered a partnership with the Zimbabwean government to provide security solutions and curb piracy in Zimbabwe

According to Microsoft officials, the company will work with the Zimbabwean government to use information technology (IT) solutions to improve efficiency and reduce software piracy.

In addition to this agenda, this partnership is also aimed at easing the implementation of reforms under the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) through the use of IT, added officials.

“Microsoft will support us to improve efficiency and minimise ICT costs as well as implement centralised and standardise solutions across the government, contributing towards reducing software piracy and that also include security enhancement,” said Gershem Pasi, revenue authority commissioner for Zimbabwe.

According to Pasi, Microsoft's IT packages will also come with security enhancements to curb piracy and provide an enabling environment for the deployment of an integrated, result-based management system as outlined under Zim-Asset.

Pasi said the government was also in talks with Microsoft to open an office in the country.

"We are looking at the possibility of Microsoft opening an office in Zimbabwe so that we can have resources close by," stated Pasi.
