The e-commerce platform Jumia and VIVO Energy, the pan-African retailer and distributor of Shell and Engen-branded fuels and lubricants, have signed an agreement to streamline e-commerce and delivery operations in Africa

The agreement will see VIVO Energy’s retail service stations become pick-up and drop-off points for Jumia deliveries, allowing customers to collect or return online orders made on Jumia’s digital platform.

In addition, Jumia’s customers will be able to place and pay for Jumia orders at select service stations.

In a statement, the two companies said they have partnered to develop and pilot a series of initiatives designed to offer additional services to customers in selected countries where both companies operate.

The partnership will be piloted in Kenya, Morocco, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire before being rolled out to countries where both companies are operating. Vivo operates in 23 African markets while Jumia operates in 14.

The move is part of Jumia’s bid to tackle the last-mile delivery problem in Africa, especially as the e-commerce company looks to expand operations beyond major cities.
