Swedish telecom company Millicom has entered a joint venture (JV) with online payment service Kalixa to create a payment process in Africa and Latin America
The service is expected to commence in Colombia and Brazil later in 2014, stated officials from Millicom.
According to the joint venture, a payment service will be set up for both businesses and consumers, including a payment gateway and point-of-sale solutions for merchants. There will also be a one-click payment facility, and an eWallet provision for online customers.
This JV will benefit Millicom's users reach across Africa and Latin America, through Tigo, Millicom’s digital service. In addition, it will also draw on Kalixa’s experience of providing a range of payment services as well.
“Working with Kalixa will enable us to offer a complete digital payments service in markets where ecommerce is growing rapidly and where we already have a strong presence. It is a great combination of our respective expertise,” said Hans-Holger Albrecht, CEO of Millicom.
The initial phase of the JV will begin in the second half of 2014.
