The Zimbabwean government has said it will provide up to US$20,000 of funding for technology projects
The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education’s science and technology development division has allocated funds from its 2015 budget to the funding of research, development and commercialisation of innovations.
The Innovations and Commercialisation Fund (ICF) is potentially available to individuals, public and private organisations, companies, research institutions and universities with potentially viable innovations in need of funding.
The ministry’s director of research, development and innovation, Willie Ganda, said the science and technology development division will disburse funds in the form of loans or grants which will be accessible on a competitive basis.
“Projects will initially be funded to a maximum of US$20,000 with a possibility of further funding,” the director said.
Ganda added that preferable consideration will be given to projects focusing on certain key areas.
Innovations providing solutions for agriculture, health, energy, water, mining, indigenous knowledge systems will be prioritised, along with emerging technologies such as nanotechnology, biotechnology and ICTs.
