The Honeywell User Group talks to customers in the Netherlands about its future plans and latest technologies, focusing on the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cloud engineering and cyber security

The Honeywell User Group (HUG) EMEA, 24-27 October 2016, presented Honeywell customers the next generation of virtual technologies centred around their ethos of 'evolution, not revolution.'

Jason Urso, chief technology officer for Honeywell Process Solutions, spoke to Communications Africa about this ethos at the event.

"I think it has always been part of our history to deliver continuous evolution with our offerings. For us it is a commitment to reduce our customers overall lifestyle costs and while it provides a terrific outcome for our customers, it is also beneficial for us because customers will want to work with us for longer periods of time so we have seen a good business result from it, and so have our customers. It has become part of our DNA for many years of time and as we come up with new technology solutions, we are always looking how can our existing customers move forward."

Speaking on the latest offering and whether what Honeywell Solutions are offering today is the future, Urso said, "if I look back, maybe a little bit before, last 4 or 5 years, we never would have imagined engineering our products in a cloud environment without having any physical data whatsoever. Everything is virtual. We wouldn’t have imagined that it would be cost effectively. The concept of virtual machine technology where you can separate software from hardware, when we looked at them they were in their infancy but I don’t think we believed that they could be applied to process control."
