More than 100 delegates from various Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries were in Malawi to attend workshops held for various players in the ICT and postal industries, reports Malawi correspondent Mallick Mnela

The conference entitled, ‘Towards Cost-Oriented Pricing for ICT’, was held at the Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe.

Much like in any other part of the world, the SADC region has experienced rapid growth in the use of ICT from telecommunications, broadcasting and postal sectors.

In an attempt to harness the ICT and postal landscapes within the region, the multiple conferences were organised to tackle various issues including interconnection, postal regulation and home and away roaming.

These workshops were set-up by the Communication Regulators Association of Southern Africa (CRASA) – a technical arm of the SADC - and hosted by the host country regulator, the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) from the 16-23 March 2013.

“These multiple events were aimed at mainly supporting the economic needs of the region and establish industry-based policies that are suitable for all players within the region,” said CRASA acting CEO Bridget Linzie.
