Telecoms infrastructure operator Metrofibre Networx (MFN) has selected network specialist, Ciena, to provide packet networking solutions to support enhanced ethernet managed bandwidth services in South Africa
Ciena joined forces with its BizConnect partner Adcomtec to provide a core network infrastructure, which enables MFN to quickly and efficiently deploy its MetroCONNECT Carrier Ethernet services to its expanding customer base of services providers and businesses in the country, MFN said.
“Our new open class Metro Ethernet network provides enterprises with carrier-class broadband connectivity using the service provider of their choice,” said Malcolm Kirby CEO Metrofibre Networx.
“With Ciena’s packet networking solutions we are able to increase the scalability and reliability of our network, allowing our service provider customers to provide high-performance Ethernet services to business customers.”
MFN delivers managed bandwidth services from 2Mbps up to 1Gbps between the end customer and its chosen service provider, it said.
The company provides ‘fibre-to-the-premises’ services to around 800 businesses in the Gauteng province in South Africa and its services are being expanded to explore new markets, expecting to reach more than 5,000 enterprises.
