Pan-African mobile operator MTN is launching its mobile money services in three further countries

Serigne Dioum, general manager for mobile money at the opearator`s Western and Central Africa (WECA) division, said the operator is introducing services in Liberia, Guinea Bissau and Nigeria. The operator has already launched in Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Benin.

According to Dioum, the addition of three new markets means that the MTN unit has “launched everywhere where we haven’t got regulatory issues.”

Dioum added that the operator had almost three million mobile money customers across its current footprint in the WECA region, supported by a network of some 2,100 merchants and points-of-sale
