South-African based Seemahale Telecoms and CZ Electronics have designed mobile phones and tablets for distribution in the South African market

The two have collaborated to create a new smartphone that is now available to South African customers at a cost of more than US$200mn, Seemahale Telecoms said.

Seemahale Telecoms will create a 5-inch smartphone and a 10.1 inch tablet, featuring a 960x540-pixel LCD capacitive-touch screen with a 4GB of storage, it said.

The company revealed that a dual-core 1,5GHz processor will be installed in the 5-inch smartphone, which will also feature a 960x540-pixel LCD capacitive-touch screen.

Seemahale Telecoms said it will also create a smaller 4-inch version, with similar specifications, however it will be able to connecy to Edge and 4G data and make use of a 800x480 screen with 4GB of storage.

“This project is a first in Africa as far as I am aware. It’s not right that out of a billion or more phones in Africa, none are made or assembled in Africa,” said then CEO of Seemahale, Thabo Lehlokoe.

“Some are designed here, but they’re then made in China,” Lehlokoe added.
