Local companies such as Discovery, Protea Group and Deli Spices are embracing social business software (SBS) to achieve high-impact engagement with corporate audiences, pathing the way for others in Africa

SBS provider, Wyzetalk, provides a secure social enterprise platform that enhances the performance of organisations by engaging them to collaborate, the company said.

While high profile enterprises like GE and T-Mobile are liberally using SBS in their daily activities, the concept is in its infancy in Africa and South Africa, according to Wyzetalk.

Gysbert Kappers, CEO of Wyzetalk, said, “Whether they’re sourcing ideas, gathering market intelligence or managing company content, communication and collaboration, the upshot is very often, as it promises, increased productivity, efficiency and innovation.”

“Despite the huge backlog, deployments show that local players that understand South Africa’s unique IT and communications environment have a definite edge over global players,” added Kappers.

To achieve a relative degree of success, approaching the mobile domain is essential, the company said.

Other factors that have complemented the growth of SBS in Africa to a large base of older mobile platforms like iOS, Android and Blackberry- forcing vendors to continue supporting these platforms.

”For this reason, many customers require hosted SBS platforms to broadcast company communications or engage staff in rudimentary two-way communication,” stated Kappers.
