Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest mobile telecommunications firm, has been named one of Africas 10 most innovative companies by Forbes Magazine

Econet was the only Zimbabwean company on the list, which was dominated by US-based South African companies, according to The Herald.

The study focussed on companies across the African continent that have set industry standards.

"These companies create, then recreate and innovate,” said Forbes.

“They exploit new ideas, products and services to produce dynamic and lucrative new businesses."

Econet was recognised for dominating the telecoms industry and expanding its services to countries including Botswana, Lesotho, Burundi, Rwanda and New Zealand.

Other telecommunications companies on the list included MTN and Kenya’s Safaricom.
