South Africas Portfolio Committee on Communications said it would address issues raised by employees of South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) with its board

The committee said that employees had raised the issue of a lack of interaction with the company's management.

“It is concerning that a sub-committee of the board has had only one meeting with unions in order to find solutions to challenges faced by employees since appointment of the new board. The leadership of the organisation must create an environment that will enable consultation between the institution and its employees,” said Humphrey Maxegwana, chairperson of the committee.

The committee also raised its concern about the increase in the number of unions at SABC, which it feels would weaken unions and employees.

The unions voiced their concern about the sustainability of SABC's funding model. The committee said it would take up the matter with SABC's board.

The committee will also take up allegations of medical fraud, the firing of 26 workers and SABC becoming reliant on freelancers.
