Gekko Technology reports high interest in its broad range of LED studio and location lighting systems among attendees of Cine Gear 2011 in Hollywood
Exhibiting with US distributor PRG, Gekko demonstrated its new karess 6012 FX blue-green fixture and the new karess 6006 Dual alongside PRG's OHM colour-tunable LED spacelight which utilises Gekko's kleer colour technology.
“LED lighting provides many benefits in addition to low projected heat and high overall efficiency,” comments Gekko Technology founder and Managing Director David Amphlett. “Production crews particularly appreciate the broad spectrum of light available from Gekko's LED fixtures, and their colour stability, especially when dimmed. The illumination levels which can now be achieved from battery powered lamps is also impressive.”
Designed for special effects and chroma-key work in studios or on location, the new karess 6012 FX is a blue-green version of the karess soft light. Switchable between blue (440 nanometre) and green (525 nanometre) outputs, it incorporates a 6 x 12 emitter format in a 600 x 300 mm panel with a front-to-back depth of 165 mms and a weight of seven kilogrammes including diffuser. Power consumption is 85 watts. On location, more than 90 minutes of continuous operation can be achieved from two rear-mountable V-Lock batteries, allowing quick setup free of trailing cables. Power can also be sourced from a 12 to 40 volt DC feed via an XLR 4 connector, or from a mains supply.
Soft illumination
A colour-blendable soft light for studio and location use, the karess 6006 Dual can be adjusted between daylight (5,600 kelvin) and tungsten (3,200 kelvin) color temperatures. It incorporates a 6 x 12 emitter format in a 600 x 300 mm panel with a front-to-back depth of 165 mms and a weight of 7 kilogrammes including diffuser. The karess 6006 Dual produces high quality soft illumination with consistent colour through the dimming range.
“Considerable interest was also shown in the PRG OHM overhead soft light,” adds Gekko Business Development Manager Ian Muir. “Powered by Gekko kleer colour technology, the OHM incorporates closed-loop optical and thermal feedback to preserve colour quality over the life of the unit. This ensures an excellent match with other OHM units and traditional light sources. Benefits of the OHM include significantly reduced power consumption and an ability to tune output colour temperature via presets. The full range of features available on the lamp can be accessed either from the onboard control panel or remotely via DMX.
